Why your profit reports say zero
Almost every wrong profit number traces back to one empty field in Shopify.
If a profit report shows margin near a hundred percent, the maths is not broken — the cost is missing.
Where cost of goods comes from
Profit starts from Cost per item on each Shopify variant. If that field is empty, cost of goods is zero, and revenue passes through as profit.
Finding the gaps
Run Inventory Cost Report and sort by cost ascending. Variants with a zero cost rise to the top — that is your to-do list. Fixing them in Shopify corrects every profit report at once, retroactively.
The three costs Shopify does not track
- Fulfillment per order — packing, labour, the shipping you absorb.
- Operating expenses per month — rent, salaries, software.
- Commission — affiliate or marketplace percentages.
Those live in Settings, then Costs and profit. With all four inputs in place, profit reports reflect the business rather than the storefront.
Every report mentioned here ships with ReportifyPro110 prebuilt reports, a custom builder, and scheduled delivery to email, FTP, Drive, Sheets or S3.
